Mum and Baby Yoga

Mum & baby yoga is a playful, warm and friendly class, mixing yoga for baby and mum. The series of movements and sequences support your baby’s individual development and your post-natal recovery, enhance communication and enable you to enjoy precious fun time together. The class also provides an opportunity to meet and share experiences with other new mums.

Benefits for baby and mum

Baby yoga stretches and movements help promote your baby’s body strength, co-ordination, balance, flexibility, body awareness, confidence and spatial awareness. Baby yoga is also known to improve sleep patterns, aid respiration and digestion, and help relieve the symptoms of colic.

For mum, postnatal yoga postures and movements help close, realign and strengthen the body, relieve tension in the neck and shoulders due to feeding and carrying baby, and allow you to access calm and rest.

In this class, you will pick up tips and techniques to support your life with a baby, including different ways to lift, hold, carry and generally handle your ever-growing little one, lots of fun and soothing songs and sequences to use back at home, as well as breathing and instant relaxation techniques to stay calm, find strength and look after yourself as a new mother.

Each class ends with relaxation time to rest, recharge (which mums always need!) and allow extra time to bond with your baby.

Who is this class for?

Mum and baby yoga is suitable for babies from 10 weeks (unless born early) up until 18 months old. This is a great follow-on from baby massage. Currently, the group classes I teach are for non-mobile babies only but private (individual or group) classes can be arranged if your baby is now fully mobile (crawling/shuffling).

All baby and mum movements are completely safe and there is no pressure to do anything that you or your baby might not be comfortable doing. Adaptations will be presented to suit your baby’s development stage, and your level of postnatal recovery.

No prior experience of yoga required!!!

Little ones may need to feed, cuddle, get changed or sleep at times; this is absolutely fine in these relaxed classes.
